About
The Window Standard
The rules, the recalls and the ratings for Australian window coverings: shutters, blinds, awnings, curtains and window film. Free to read, written for the people who have to act on the rules rather than the people selling under them.
Who this is for
Three readers, one posture. The landlord or property manager inside the rental cord-safety compliance wave, who needs to know what the rule in their state actually requires, from when, and what it costs. The parent or householder who wants the child-safety rules for blind and curtain cords made plain, and every relevant recall reported when the ACCC publishes it. The buyer weighing bushfire shutters against AS 3959 and BAL ratings, or coverings and film against energy claims, who wants the standard's own test rather than a brochure's version of it. In every case the posture is the same: your question answered in the first screen, the instrument linked beside the answer, and the state the rule binds in declared before anything else, because the rules genuinely differ by state.
What we are, and are not
We read standards and regulations and report what they say. We do not issue standards, we do not speak for the ACCC, Standards Australia or any regulator, and nothing we publish is legal advice: the linked instrument is always the authority, and we design the site so that checking it takes one click. We are also not the trade press. Australia's existing window-furnishings media serves the industry, and reads like it; The Window Standard serves the other side of the counter. Where a trade title covers a product launch, we cover what the recall notice says, what 1 December changed for a Bendigo landlord, and whether an energy rating behind a claim actually exists.
What we cover, and how
Products, regulations, standards, recalls, ratings and data; never private individuals, court cases or controversy about people. Industry bodies and commercial researchers are attributed by name as advocacy or estimates. Where a safety rule exists because children have died, we state that fact once, plainly, from official sources, and never as a hook. The full method, including how corrections work and who pays for the site, is on how this site works, and it is written to be held against us.
Contact
Everything comes through one desk: news tips (identity optional), correction requests (checked against the cited source, outcome logged), and advertising enquiries (clearly labelled, never buying editorial). The site publishes a full RSS feed; there is no newsletter to sign up to yet and no tracking of readers at all, which the privacy page spells out.
